Joe served as the Representative for the Addison-Rutland District in the Vermont House of Representatives in the 2023-2024 term, where he worked on bills in areas such as public safety, land use, and modernization of agency and trust law.
He has had a long career in education, teaching at the middle school, high school, and university levels. He was an Assistant Professor of Law at Clarkson University, an Assistant Dean at Loyola Marymount University, and a Professor of the Practice at Middlebury College. His work in higher education has focused on law and business ethics. He has won multiple awards for this work, including the Faculty Teaching Excellence Award from the Faculty of the Clarkson University School of Business, the Outstanding Teacher of the Year Award from the Clarkson University Student Association, and Clarkson’s highest award, induction into the Clarkson University Phalanx Society.
He served as is Chair of the Addison County Planning Commission for one term, and now serves on its Executive Committee. He also served as Chair of the Orwell’s Planning Commission and Development Review Board, as a member of the Addison County Economic Development Corporation Board of Directors, and in other capacities as well. He served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Armenia, was a senate-confirmed gubernatorial appointee in New York as a member of the Ogdensburg Bridge and Port Authority Board of Directors, is the former chair of the Town Auditors Committee of Bethel, Vermont, and was a co-founder of Royalton Community Radio in South Royalton, Vermont.
Joe holds a B.A. in Philosophy from Oberlin College, a J.D. from Vermont Law School (’05), and a teaching certificate from the Upper Valley Educators Institute. He lives in Orwell, Vermont with his wife, Sarah.
